James HarrisJames George Harris was born at Vaughan Vic about 1863.


  • He came to Canberra about 1910 as secretary to King O’Malley, first Minister of Home Affairs
  • He conducted a stationery business in Queanbeyan which he sold in 1914.
  • He purchased The Queanbeyan Leader and conducted it under the title of “The Queanbeyan-Canberra Advocate until 1922.
  • He also carried on a business as an auctioneer and house and land agent.
  • He was secretary of the Queanbeyan P & A Association for a number of years.
  • He died 8 May 1936
