Cr Frank Pangallo first elected to Queanbeyan Council in September 1971

Deputy mayor 1974-1980.

Responsible for the establishment of the Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre in 1977.

Awarded M.B.E. in 1977 in recognition for his contribution to local government and the community.

In 1977 he was appointed by the NSW government to the first ethnic affairs commission of NSW and served on the commission for a period of 5 years.

In 1991 he was elected for a period of 4 years as the city’s first mayor from a non British background.

In 1995 he was re-elected as mayor and councillor for a period of 4 years with 62% of the vote.
