  • Deputy mayor 1974-1980.
  • Responsible for the establishment of the Queanbeyan Multilingual Centre in 1977.
  • Awarded M.B.E. in 1977 in recognition for his contribution to local government and the community.
  • In 1977 he was appointed by the NSW government to the first ethnic affairs commission of NSW and served on the commission for a period of 5 years.
  • In 1991 he was elected for a period of 4 years as the city’s first mayor from a non British background.
  • In 1995 he was re-elected as mayor and councillor for a period of 4 years with 62% of the vote.
  • Driving force behind foundation of Marco Polo social and sporting club.
